Northern Ireland 's two current World Karate Champions were honoured in The House of Commons on Wednesday 17th May by Ms.Kate Hoey MP, the former British Minister of Sport.

David Brashaw of Newtownards and Catherine McAleer of Belfast 's Ormeau Road were congratulated by Ms. Hoey on winning both the WKC World Male and Female Wadoryu Kata Titles at the World Championships which were held recently in Serbia & Montenegro .

This is the first time that both male and female WKC World Wadoryu titles have gone to the same country.

Terence Boyle, Chairman of the Ulster Karate Council said: "It's a great privilege for our athlete's to be honoured this way by the former Minister of Sport for Gt. Britain. As well as Ms. Hoey being a citizen of N Ireland, she is also passionate about all sports and a great supporter of sports achievers from this part of the world".

David coaches students in Carnalea Karate Club and Catherine coaches and trains at The Rosario School of Karate Belfast and The Esporta Health Club Holywood.
