Black Belt Success
Last weekend saw local man Sam Lewis succeed to 1st Dan Black belt with Chief Instructor of W.I.K.F. Prof Tatsuo Suzuki. After a rigorous 2 day course, which included a strict pre grading lesson with the Chief Instructor and endless practice exercises, Sam pulled out all the stops in his grading. After a great performance fighting for Northern Ireland in last year's European Championship, where he was unlucky to come away without a medal, Sam once again provided an exceptional display of his fighting ability during his grading.
Sam from Newtownards, has been training with the Carnalea Club for the last 8 years. To achieve black belt has taken a lot of personal time and commitment. Sam's brother Kevin, one of his instructors in the Carnalea club said "Sam performed very well on the day and fully deserved the grade". The junior members of the club who Sam has taken a lead role with in terms of karate and confidence development, will now have yet another role model to aspire to.
Sam is delighted with his new black belt and would recommend karate to anyone as a great way to exercise and for setting personal goals. Many other Carnalea karate students, both children and adults, from the Ards and North Down areas, who attended Prof Suzuki's course, thoroughly enjoyed the training.
