Carnalea Basho 2003

Last Saturday Carnalea Wado Kai held its annual Basho (tournament). This year an amazing eighty competitors from all over North Down and Ards took part. This probably demonstrated why the club has such a fantastic success record in karate competitions. The standard as ever was very high, with all competitors giving their best performance to try and secure some silverware.
Special thanks must be given to In-Sport of Newtownards for suppling eleven categories of trophies and also to the Red Cross for their medical support.
The special awards this year were as follows:

Student of the Year - The Brashaw Cup - Kealin Murdock, who last Autumn secured a silver medal at the European Championships Hardest Trier
The Willis Cup - Crisanto Espana, who was part of the boys U13 Championship of the Isles winning team.
Spirit Award - The James Griffin Memorial Shield - Peter Eves, who showed fantastic spirit in his first competition, The North West Open, to secure two medals.
