On Saturday 3 May a number of junior students at Carnalea Karate Club were awarded new belts for achieving their next level in karate
After a demanding warm up and a series of combination fighting techniques in a course from Sensei Kevin Lewis, the students were then given some last minute tips from coach David Brashaw.
New students Thomas Phillips, Arden Hamill and Cameron Fields were all deservedly awarded their red belt, and from the senior class James Hewitt was awarded his yellow belt.
Dean Miller, Ryan Bennett, Jackie Taggart, Tony French, Sam Stevenson and Aime McAllister all did very well to receive their orange and yellow belt, with young Jamie Stewart moving up to his full orange.
The highest grading of the day was for green and orange belts. Coach Brashaw explained “ This is the first grade when the children have to spar against each other. It is a tough step up for many of them.” In spite of this the following students were all awarded the grade: Nathan Lockhart, Alex Martin, Monisa Shahzad, Ryan Jackson and Nameer Shahzad. In particular there was a great second class pass to Alex and excellent fighting from Ryan.
Well done to everyone who successfully graded.
The students are all looking forward to the club's annual Fun Day which is taking place this Saturday 10th May.
