Last weekend there was a mini grading at Carnalea Karate Club. Children were put through their paces and given last minute confidence tips by coach Sam Lewis just before their examination. He advised “As children’s officer in the club I feel it is vital that every child is encouraged before being tested. Subsequently they then produce good results.”
Successful students for yellow and white belt were: Joseph Ferguson, Gareth Wells, Tony French and Tyler Walker. Jamie Stewart completed the syllabus for his yellow belt. Two new students at orange stripe were Jack Pang and Gareth Carlile. Brother and sister Nameer and Monisa Shahzad were awarded their orange belt with the green stripe going to Stephen Boyd. The top belt awarded at the grading by head coach David Brashaw was a blue belt, which went to Rhiannon Wells. David added, “ I was delighted with Rhiannon’s performance. She has been training with the club since November 2003 and always gives one hundred per cent effort in her training.
I am also very pleased with a number of students who recently moved up into the senior class. It’s a bit similar to moving into secondary school. It can be tough at times, but so far Nathan Lockhart, Monisa Shahzad, Tony French, Sam Stevenson and Alex Martin have all responded very well to the challenge.”
